The story revolves around the coming-of-age story of an odd pair of two Mormon missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, the Book of Mormon showcases the theme of religion and religious storytelling, and presents it in a fresh comedic light. The two missionaries are sent on a mission to preach to the villagers of a local village in Uganda, who turn out to be facing more important challenges than what they aim to preach.
The Book of Mormon was just an idea back in 2003 by creators Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, continuing on to its premiere in 2011. Since then, the musical comedy has become one of the most financially successful Broadway shows in history, with repeatedly sold-out shows for over a decade.

In its several performances in the United States, London’s West End, and Australia among others, the musical comedy has been met with an astounding reception from viewers and sold-out shows. In Saginaw, it is expected to be just as extraordinary as the performance on Wednesday 25th September 2024 will be running in Heritage Theatre At Dow Event Center, with a reputation of running the ultimate plays and musicals, and praised by fans because of its beautiful facilities and adequate seating.
The Book of Mormon is a musical about faith and how we behave towards it, specifically Latter-day Saints (LDS) missionaries named Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they are sent on a mission to teach their religion’s faith and teachings to a small local village in Uganda. They discover however, the local residents are not receptive of their preaching, as they are fighting against more dangerous issues. The pair then try different methods to convert the locals, with Cunnigham’s often involving adding fiction and fantasy to his teachings.
After a decade of success, The Book of Mormon has won several awards in both Broadway and West End, including nine Tony Awards out of fourteen total nominations, including for Best Musical after its debut in 2011, four Drama Desk Awards, and three Outer Circle Critics awards. Across the pond, in the West End production of the musical which debuted in 2013 at the Prince of Wales theatre, it won four Laurence Olivier Awards again including for Best Musical, while in its Australian tour in 2017, it also won two Helpmann Awards that also included for Best Musical.
Commercially, The Book of Mormon has also achieved impressive monetary success with more than 4,600 performances as of the end of alst year. It has raked in over $1 billion dollars worldwide, and was even supported by the church through purchases of ad space, billboards, bus advertising space, and other marketing campaigns in the several cities in which the show appeared in.
